In the past two weeks we have been studying about flying creatures. We have done quite a few experiments on flight. Such as seeing whether a glider with thin or thick wings can go the farthest, watching water escape from a straw while we blow over the top, and capturing an insect and putting it in the fridge to learn how an insects body temperature can change. It is a really fun and fascinating science.
One day a deer who lived in England, was racing away from a pack of wolves who were trying to eat it for lunch because they were hungry and wanted a roast deer with tomato ketchup. The wolves were running as fast as they could to catch the deer through the woods. The leader of the wolves told the others to stop the chase because he wanted to have a rest. Then with a howl from the leader they were off again. They saw the deer stuck between two bushes which it was trying to break free from. When the deer saw the wolves he broke free easily because he was just pretending to be stuck. Then the wolves crashed into the tree as they were running because they were so shocked at what the deer could do and that he had escaped.

One day a grasshopper, which was sitting in the grass was making a chirping noise to call all the other grasshoppers to his attention, because he wanted them all to go near the farm storehouses to eat the corn which was in the cornbags. After the leader of the grasshoppers spoke to them they hopped across the field to where the storehouses were. They all squeezed through a gap in the door and started to eat all the bags and the corn! Then they all hopped back into the field. What an interesting life grasshoppers lead! *joke*

One day a bird was sitting in its nest in a tall, evergreen tree in the Dartmoor forest, surrounded by mountains, trees, and rivers. The bird was sitting on its eggs in a nest to keep them warm and safe from predators that lived nearby. It was very cold and rainy outside and the bird was getting cold too, so she sat in the nest a bit more and went to sleep.

This morning two new swings and glider set came in a box which dad had ordered. It has two swings next to each other and the glider on the end. The glider is a swing which has two seats in front of each other so two people can sit on instead of one. Dad is going to get rid of the old swing because its old and broke. I am excited about the new swing.

Last Saturday I bought my own bug tank, which is the same color as Levi’s. Dad put the gravel in and I put some twigs , leaves, and pebbles inside. Next I added ants and a small garden spider. When I put the tank in my room, the ants started to crawl out! So I had to move it on the bookcase in the kitchen next to the seamonkeys. It is quite a good bug tank.

Yesterday afternoon Levi and I went insect hunting outside to catch some ants and other insects. Daddy bought Levi a tank to keep the insects inside and he has put some ants and a small fly in it. I am going outside later to catch some insects too. I think insects are fun too watch inside a container.

In the past few weeks we have been doing work on insects and arachnids. We learn about what they eat, their characteristics, and how they defend themselves from predators. We make small books to read about the insects and do many other activites. We have almost finished the study and its been fun doing it.

There was once a dog called Pericles who lived in a grand palace in Athens. He had many ornaments, dog toys, and many Greek books. He often sat by the fire reading books about Athens. Sometimes he would play with other dogs that lived in Athens and often played tag and catch the bone. Sometimes he would eat his bone and read at the same time . He had a peaceful life.

One day a frog was feeding on a dragonfly which was big and red and had very large wings, which were so big the frog could not get them in is mouth. So he fetched some cooking scissors from his hibernating mudhole and snipped the wings off and threw them into the water. But he was thirsty too and went back into his hibernating mudhole and put some water beetle juice into a tulip cup and drank it. But he didn’t know there was actually a water beetle in. And when he drank it he spat the waterbeetle out onto his mudfloor. The frog felt better after the water beetle was out and drank his juice happily. The frog enjoyed his juice and dragonfly.
